Today's podcast is all about achieving your goals and not just setting them. Now let's get real, some of you think you have it all figured out..you've mapped out your goals and you are ready to kick them into gear. Here's the thing though…this is where most of you fail. I say this in the most concerned and honest way possible. Goals are not just words. Goals are words with action and action determines if you will be successful. Goals without action aren't really goals at all.
So listen in, Go-Getters because today we are setting measurable goals for our future.
In this episode, you will learn
Let’s be honest with measurable goals for our future. We all set a lot of goals for ourselves, especially at this time of year. However, if you look back at 2018 and the goals you set then, did you actually achieve them? Let’s change that pattern right now.
Your first step, if you’ve never listened to Tony Robbins, is to start immediately. He speaks truth, and he really fixed my mindset a few years ago. He can help with yours as well. If you take no other action steps today, please check him out.
Step two is to join the Go-Getter’s Facebook group. We’re having great discussions and working towards all sorts of big goals together. Search Teaching on Less on Facebook to join today. In a recent thread, I asked my fellow Go-Getters what their big goals for this year are. Many answered with “increasing their [social media] followers to _____.” Let’s do better than that! Putting your worth and your success in how many followers you have is a thing of your past. Followers don’t always result in more money for your future.
Your next step is to set actionable goals. I talk more about how to do that in “The Go-Getters Podcast Episode 14: Setting Goals for Your Future” at www.kaysemorris.com/episode14. For now, please know that goals are just words without action. Action is what determines if you will be successful.
I start all of my goals for each year with a monetary number. It may sound vain, but it’s how I put my goals into action. Once I know how much money I’m shooting for, I can break those goals down into small, digestible pieces. Believe me when I say, I dream big. You need to dream big, too.
People often ask me what kind of goals I set. The answer may not help you in your business path because my goals are specific for my business, but I’ll share a little insight. First, it’s always how much money I intend to earn and by what date. Then I need to think about how I’ll do that and why. My “how” is always actionable. It may be to create x amount of products and promote them this way, or it could be to launch my course, “Transform Your Resources” x times a year and use different avenues to grow my clients. Maybe it’s to help 1,000 teachers reach their goals by sharing my free booklet, “The First 10 Steps to Selling Your Resources Online.”
Let’s say your goal is to earn $20,000 this year with your side hustle. How are you going to earn it? Don’t just say, “I’ll make more things.” That’s not an actionable plan. You need real, visible steps to move that plan into action in order to meet your goals. There are many ways to do this; I discuss my specific method in “The Go-Getters Podcast” at www.kaysemorris.com/episode14.
As discussed in “The Cost of Dreaming Big,” I am a huge fan of Napoleon Hill and his book Think and Grow Rich. You can check out that episode for more details and to access a link to either purchase the book on Amazon or to listen to the book on Audible. I write down items that I want to achieve based on Hill’s principles from Think and Grow Rich, as seen below:
You may be thinking, “Wow, that’s a lot of details to handle,” and you’d be right. That’s where organization is key. You must be organized in order to be successful. To keep track of everything, I use tons of different methods. You need to figure out what works for you, but if you’re looking for tips, I describe my process in “Setting Goals for Your Future” at www.kaysemorris.com/episode14. I’ve also included a download there with a clickable link on every item where you can grab one of your own.
My homework for you is to listen to “The Go-Getters Podcast Episode 14: Setting Goals for Your Future” and then create your own goals for 2019 today. It doesn’t have to just be on New Years – goals can be made at any point in your life. It’s what you do with those goals that truly matters. Write those measurable goals and become a Go-Getter!
