The CEO Teacher® is home to over 3000 educators that are learning how to build an online presence through TPT sitewide sales and beyond. Maybe it's on Instagram, maybe it's through email marketing, no matter what your goals are, I just want to remind you that the dream is the same.
We are put on this planet to create a bigger impact, and I am so honored to be able to help our students reach their dreams on a weekly basis. I finally feel like we have all the right people in all the right seats on Team Kayse and it is truly the biggest blessing of all. Some of our students are making over a hundred thousand dollars a year and they are well on their way to making a million. Can you even believe it? Like holy cow, who thought in three years that this would be what the CEO Teacher® has become.
We're going to talk about something that we chat about a lot on our weekly coaching calls inside of the CEO Teacher® School membership. And we just wanted to give you some quick, actionable strategies for how to prepare for TPT sitewide sales. Strategies that you can go ahead and implement right now. So let's talk a little bit about what that means. TPT sitewide sales happen just a few times a year on Teachers Pay Teachers. And it's one of our biggest money-making times of the year. Teachers literally prepare to buy during upcoming sitewide sales. It happens during back-to-school. It happens during the holiday seasons and every now and then in between.
Now we kind of have a basic understanding of the time of year these TPT sitewide sales happen, but they change up every single year. But one thing that we know for sure is that we will definitely have one before the end of the year. So I just want you to go ahead and prepare yourself, go ahead and plan now so that you're not freaking out when the time comes and you're ready to go. Again, as a seller, it’s one of our biggest money-making days of the year. So we want to make sure that you're ready to go. Now, what happens is Teachers Pay Teachers offers us a discount for specific products, and then you can also place your entire store, or just a few products, an additional percentage off. Now, in your mind, you might be thinking, yeah, but I'm new here, Kayse. I don't want to put my store on sale.
Yes, you do. Because people are only buying from the stores that are on sale. And I made the mistake one time and forgot to put my store on sale. And I had people messaging me like, what is your store going to be on sale? I'm waiting to buy some of your products. So don't do what I did.
Number one is you have to plan to showcase your featured products. Now, when I refer to feature products, those are the first four products that you see whenever someone lands on your Teachers Pay Teachers store. So you have your banner and then directly underneath that, you have four featured products. Now, as an example, let's say that this is going to be a holiday sitewide sale.
As I am preparing for the upcoming sitewide sale I will be strategic with my featured resources. I have products that reference an elf scavenger hunt. And some centers are holiday-focused. Maybe I have a brand new New Year Activity that I want to share. And maybe the last one is something about holiday greeting cards or holidays around the world. I want to make sure that those products are front and center because they are timely and they are seasonal.
So as people land on my store, even if they aren't coming to buy those things, they'll see it and say, oh man, maybe I should grab this too. Have you ever been to HomeGoods or TJ Maxx or Hobby Lobby? As you're going through the checkout line, there is like this tunnel of goodness. So at HomeGoods, it's all the things that you never knew you needed as you go to checkout. And undoubtedly, I'm going to grab a candle. The other day I grabbed a notebook and a cute pin and a new coaster to put my drink on. I had no intention of buying any of those things.
Oh, and I also bought a new fake plant to go into my office. So even though I had no intention of buying those things, because I was walking down this little hallway of goodness (featured products) I grabbed them and put them in my cart, and bought them anyway.
I didn't go into the store with that intention, but that's what happened. So that's exactly what's going to happen as you plan to showcase your featured products. People aren't necessarily coming to your store to buy those things. But as they see them on their way to checkout, they're going to throw them in their cart. And they're going to buy.
Why?!?
Because they're saving money. And they never knew they really needed it. But now that they see it and it's seasonal and timely, they're going to go all in! A big concern that my students have is, but Kayse, people don't have money during the holidays. That is the biggest misconception that you could ever make. Yes, they do. Some people save up all year long just for the holidays. And even if the idea of them saving up is not there. I want you to know that people are in buying mode during the holidays. We have our cards out, our cash out. We're ready to buy. So make sure that you set up your featured products as you prepare for the next successful Teachers Pay Teachers site-wide sale.
#2: This may seem like a no-brainer –create new resources. As you begin to create new resources and people begin to follow you on teachers pay teachers. They are automatically notified when you upload a new resource. So if you hold onto some new resources right before the TPT sitewide sale, which a lot of sellers do. And upload them the day of, or the day before, whenever someone logs in to TPT your products are going to be the first ones that they see. So their home page is going to say, this seller recently uploaded this product. Although I don’t necessarily agree with this, a lot of big sellers will hold onto like 10 products that they created that are relevant for the site-wide sale or seasonal.
They will legit just upload them right before the sale goes live so that the products will rank above everyone else's. I like to be a little bit more strategic with my TPT sitewide sale prep. I like to sprinkle some before, some during, and some right at the end. So that way people are going to see them when the sale is happening. Remember that's when the majority of sales happen on Teachers' Pay Teachers. During a site-wide sale. Every teacher is logging in so I like to be strategic.
Number three is to update established products with a video preview. Never, ever underestimate the power of a video preview. Now we've had some podcasts episodes on why you should upload video previews and how you can do that. When you upload a video preview, you're just giving yourself some more street credibility. And if you utilize search engine optimization in that video preview tagline, then you are more likely to get seen. Remember search engines love us when we give them what they want. So uploading a video preview will help you rank higher.
In addition, it also is a great way for someone to make a final decision. Let's say that they are having to make a decision between your product and someone else's. If I have the opportunity to watch a video, I am one hundred percent more likely to buy that product. I use this strategy a lot on Amazon. I am going to read the reviews and I'm also going to watch a video if someone has uploaded one. So make sure that you go back to your best sellers first. That's how I started implementing video previews. Teachers Pay Teachers has recently stated that products that have video previews do have a higher conversion rate, meaning that more people buy those than other products.
#4- photograph new products for thumbnails and social media posts. Fresh images work best on all social media and especially on Pinterest. We absolutely insist on using Pinterest as a strategy to get your products in front of other people. So if you photograph new products, you upload those to your blog post or on your website. The great news is now Pinterest sees that as fresh content as does every other social media platform.
And when you upload fresh content, you are telling everyone, Hey, I'm still working on this. This is still something that is out there. Even if it's not necessarily a new product I've been selling on TPT for over eight years. In order for some of my products that are really old to not fall flat, I need to update them and I need to take new pictures of them. Photographing those older products and some of my new products will help me share real-life photographs that help with conversions. But we'll also notify the search engines that this content, even though the product is older, it is considered “fresh content” and search engines love fresh content.
Finally, the last way to prepare for a successful TPT sitewide sale as a seller is the HOLY GRAIL: update your product descriptions.
Oftentimes we feel like updating our product descriptions is the most boring job on the planet and you're not wrong. It is pretty boring, but utilizing keywords and understanding search engine optimization to get those product descriptions optimized before a TPT sitewide sale is the ultimate prep.
Inside of the CEO Teacher® School, we have a complete and robust template on how to update your product descriptions. We show our students how to use a good hook and how to use relative keywords and so much more. But if you're looking to get started to sell your resources online, we have a free resource for you to Start or expand your online teaching business. It is your time to soar higher and create the life you want to live. I am here to help you find your CEO Teacher® Type and encourage you to get started today. I don’t want you to look back in a year and think about all that could have been!
