For anyone who has ever felt like this before, here is an imposter syndrome definition: Imposter syndrome is a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist despite evident success. ‘Imposters' suffer from chronic self-doubt and a sense of intellectual fraudulence that override any feelings of success or external proof of their competence. Yes, unfortunately, imposter syndrome is real. And yes, fortunately, something can be done! Truthfully, we all – myself included – struggle with this at some point in our journey, friend. So while your personal imposter symptoms may take many shapes or forms, to walk a path to your limitless success, we need to look it squarely in the face. That’s what we’re going to do on today’s episode.
Kicking it to the curb: how to overcome imposter syndrome once and for all
Here’s a list of questions that may indicate that you’re dealing with imposter syndrome:
Are you certified in middle school but want to share resources for another age group?
Are you a first year teacher but still feel like you could create programs or services to sell?
Are you ready to retire but still feel like you could bring something vital to the education table?
Do you want to leave the profession but feel like making money from your teaching experience is in the cards?
If you answered yes to any of the above or if you relate to any of the above, you might be dealing with imposter syndrome. So on today’s episode, I’m going to lay out the action steps you need to kick imposter syndrome to the curb. Before I do, however, here’s a quote from the queen of writing, AKA Shonda Rhimes: “I am not lucky. You know what I am? I am smart, I am talented, I take advantage of the opportunities that come my way and I work really, really hard. Don’t call me lucky. Call me a bad*ss.” Woohoo! I couldn’t agree more.
