Let’s fix those self-sabotaging behaviors that could be holding you back from true limitless success. Obviously, I’m on a Robin Sharma kick these days but I think it’s a testament to how much of an impact his writings have had on my life in addition to a lot of other remarkable authors. On the way home from a crazy and jam-packed spring break I began relistening to a book that took me back in time. To the exact moment and place where I often self-sabotaged my own success. A place where my mindset was I’m just Kayse the 8th grade ELA teacher.
I want to give you a clear path towards finding freedom from your negative thoughts and emotions (even if you are a positive person).
It was my seventh year as a teacher and I had started implementing some positive routines in my daily practice that included removing myself from toxic situations as much as possible. During my planning period, if we didn’t have a meeting scheduled I took my Apple headphones (cord attached) and b-lined it as quickly as possible to the nearest exit to listen to my favorite podcast or audio book. It usually consisted of Pat Flynn, Dave Ramsey, or Amy Porterfield but today was different.
I had bought an Oprah recommended book called The Power of Now by Echart Tolle. If the sun was shining and it wasn’t South Georgia heat hot, I’d make my way down the school track to get a few laps in, but on this day it was cloudy, a bit windy and I decided to walk down the covered sidewalk where our 40ish buses lined up every day. We had a huge middle school so this pathway was close to a quarter of a mile. So I’d go back and forth as much as I could for an hour while listening. If you know anything about Eckhart, you know his voice is mesmerizing.
I mean that literally, his voice could put me in a deep meditation state instantly because it's so smooth and easy. This book was deeper than anything I had ever read before. He spoke of thoughts, feelings, emotions, spirituality and so much my head was swimming. He got to a part about freeing our mind of the voice inside our head (a new recent TikTok trend had people saying they don’t hear a voice inside their head and if that’s you – you’re lucky my friend) because the voices in my head are insane. Have you ever seen someone who people say speaks out of their head? We call them crazy? Mentally ill? They in fact are not that much different than we are. They just speak their voices in their head out loud while we listen to ours internally.
Our voices say things like “I don’t like her, she’s too annoying, she doesn’t deserve that, she’s not as talented as me, she’s too pretty, she’s not my kind of person.” Although I never ever think those thoughts anymore of people I used to think a few of them.
We talk a lot about business and building your own CEO Teacher® business here in this space in the online world. But you also need self-care strategies in place to fill yourself up. I urge you to make time for self-awareness and self-care. It isn't only important, but it is necessary.
However, if you are intentional with your time and make self-care a priority, you could see your greatest success yet.
You are worth investing in. You deserve all the happiness and success in the world. But you have to believe it first before you can achieve it. Finding happiness with yourself is necessary for mastering your mindset. Plus its super important to not let other people control your happiness. Its time to stop holding yourself back from your own success and self sabotaging your own destiny.
“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.” ― James Clear, Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones
Have you ever felt like when someone else wins, it means you lose? What happens to your internal voice when you see someone else killing it in their CEO Teacher® business? Do you have thoughts like “well they don't have kids” or “yeah but they don't understand what it’s like to still be in the classroom?” Is your teacher mindset actually self-sabotaging behavior?
There is a secret ingredient to a successful online business. The one thing that has changed my life and business forever and I have a feeling it will help you where you are at the stage in your business too. It's a mindset shift that even you can start today! It’s time to move from thinking there’s not enough to go around to understanding there is more than enough waiting for those willing to get it! A scarcity mindset is grounded in competition, negative self-sabotage talk, and fear. You may feel like you aren’t worthy of wealth and success.
An abundance mindset comes from knowing your self-worth and being secure in who you are. You know that there is more than enough to go around, and you are willing to go out and get it.
