Johnny's Appleseed's Life
Lil Johnny Appleseed was born in Massachusetts in 1774. The John Chapman family spread its branches wide – he had 11 siblings, most of them half-brothers and half-sisters from his father’s second marriage. At the tender age of 18, Chapman lit out across the country to spread kindness in the form of apple orchards to feed hungry children. The pioneer renowned for planting apple trees, wearing his tattered clothing and tin pan as a hat, became the Johnny Appleseed folktale.
The real Johnny Appleseed was a conservationist, a communicator, and a humanitarian. Share the joy of Johnny Appleseed with your students.
