This game works on building fluency with your students. Draw words out of your summer lemonade and have them practice saying the words as quickly as possible. Next, have the students circle the word on their summer drink. The words you use for the game will automatically populate on their coconut/umbrella drink. As a special treat, have students make their own summer lemonade during centers. This game does repeat 2 of the words because there are 12 playing cards.
This flip a sight word game can be played in so many different ways. Feel free to print out the grill pieces provided and hide them all over your room. If you want to transform your classroom with this May sight word game, I would take the printouts and stick them on different grill pieces. I picked up mine at the Dollar Tree. As your students find new words, or as you introduce the words to them during flexible grouping, have them find the match on their worksheet and color it in. They can also have fun flipping each word over with a spatula.
It’s time to leap for sight words! I purchased these cute little frogs that jump from my local Dollar Tree in the party section. Push on the frogs and they pop up! To play this game, students will go on a scavenger hunt around your room. Hide the frogs in different places and have the students match their frog to the worksheet. Once they have identified all of the words on their worksheet, traced the word, and placed the frog back in its hiding spot, they may leap their toy frogs across the page. Feel free to use anything to represent a frog such as a green M&M or green skittle. Students will be leaping through these words as quickly as they can! Please note: the words leap frog can be spelled leapfrog, but I prefer the two words to be separated for my Kindergartners.
Our mission and vision in my hometown is “Destination Graduation for College, Career, and Life.” I thought I’d incorporate that mission and vision into a fun sight word game. As we prepare our students for the next school year it’s important to emphasize graduating and reaching new milestones. For this game, the teacher or student may draw a card from the pile. They will then roll the dice to match the card and fill in the corresponding word on their Destination Graduation worksheet. This May Sight Word Game is sure to be a big hit!
I realize “the fifth of sight words” doesn’t really make sense in English, but it is super fun to say! Hahaha! I thought I’d put a twist on the holiday Cinco De Mayo for my students. Do you celebrate this holiday with your students? This game is easy! Give students maracas (I found mine in the party section at the Dollar Tree) and every time you say a new word have them shake their maracas and say the word. Next, students will find the matching word on their May sight word worksheet and color it in. Once they have completed that, the next step is the best part. Have students complete the exercise next to the word. You determine the number of reps the students will do. Feel free to add more reps if they are feeling extra wiggly that day.
