Celebrate Veterans Day 2017 and honor our veterans on November 11th with these activities for your elementary students. Give your classroom a day to remember.
One of my absolutely favorite ways to honor veterans is to create a memorable keepsake for them. My students create flip books for everything, but this flip book seems to be their favorite. In fact, we like to find veterans in our community and give them one of these flipbooks. As a result, we make sure to do our very best and take a few days to create this resource.
Each flap contains information on a very important part of being a veteran. First, students learn about the different branches of our military. As a result, this prepares the students for our yearly Veterans Day assembly where we dedicate an entire hour to honoring our loved ones. In the past, we have had students read aloud from their tab titled, “Why We Love Veterans.” Along with creating the flip book, we teach our students “God Bless America” to sing at our Veterans Day assembly. You can purchase this flip book here or bundle it with foldable books and a mini unit here.
Veterans Day foldable books are a great center activity for the week of November 11. These no-prep foldable books make life easy for you and for your students. No staples, just simple folding. It's as easy as 1,2,3! For instance, this bundle comes with 9 different readers total. While students love folding these books, they also learn why we honor our veterans, the branches of military, how to sing songs to encourage our veterans and so much more. Furthermore, my students get so excited to hear about all the acts of kindness veterans embody! Grab these foldable books here.
This mini unit ignites learning on a whole new level. Students learn the facts of being a veteran, but they also learn about loyalty, honor, and dignity. Check out some of the pages in this unit down below. Find more here.
