I was the one chasing, I was the one trying to make the plans, trying to hang out – she couldn’t tell me the cold hard truth – so she just left it at this – if he wanted to, he would. I remember thinking she was crazy but looking back – she was so right. So as I was thinking of the question my students keep coming back to – that saying kept coming into my head only in a new way. Online Education Future Growth

4:50 a.m. 

That’s what time my alarm went off every single day last week. That’s what time I got up out of my bed and walked across my room to my new favorite gadget that charges my apple watch, phone, and headphones all on one dock. That’s when I started my day. 

Before you think you aren’t a morning person, I wish you could see my face when I wake up. 

I hate it. 

Loathe it. 

It disgusts me to be up before the sun, but what I’ve found in the past few months of experimenting with this new life is what changed everything for me. See, I’m a mom to 5 and I don’t get “ME” time very often. Time to recharge, refresh, and reinvigorate. But I’ve been experimenting with this new idea that I could wake up, and head to the Crossfit Gym 5 days a week for my workout. (If you’re a CrossFitter you understand the struggle of a hot box during mid-summer and it’s nearly impossible in this Georgia heat to manage a noon class). 

So I made a sacrifice to wake up early, but little did I know that making this slight change in my schedule, sticking to the promise I made to myself to put myself first each morning would set my life on a new track. I wanted to stop breaking promises to myself. I wanted to be impeccable with my word. 

Do Teachers Make Money In The Summer?

It just so happens that this week I began reading and finished the book titled The Four Agreements. And the first agreement was that very idea – be impeccable with your word. 

So I did. 

This week I saw my life transform. I’ve been on a sober-ish journey since the beginning of the year and haven’t really drank much during the week at all. In fact, I went from drinking a few beers or glasses of wine each day of my life to drinking just a few each week. Usually on a social occasion with friends. It’s changed everything. It’s put life into perspective, it’s given me hope again about each day and it’s made me excited for new beginnings. 

So here we are – I don’t break any promises to myself, I get up at 4:50 a.m. I’m present with my family and do not consume copious amounts of alcohol. I read a revolutionary book and feel new beginnings are setting in. 

How you can be impeccable with your word this week? How can you make promises to yourself like:

I am going to make extra money this summer for myself or my family and stick to it?

Write it down on a sticky note that you can see and use the promise to guide you. I want today to be your turning point, your lifeline. Your recharge, refresh, and reinvigoration of what life is supposed to look like for a teacher.
