Are you familiar with imposter syndrome? Have the following thoughts ever crossed your mind?
I am just not made to be a teacher.
What am I doing as an edupreneur?
I don't have enough knowledge to be working in this field.
I wonder why people see me as an expert. I don't deserve it.
If you find yourself relating to any of the points mentioned above, the chances are that you may be going through a condition called Imposter Syndrome. It is a feeling where you see yourself as a massive fraud that could get caught at any moment. The heightened sense of panic that comes with this is another story.
On top of it, social media have truly aggravated the condition as it is natural to wonder and compare our life with other people's lives. Why haven't I reached to that level in my edupreneur journey? How does that classroom look so perfect? These are some of the questions that can often pop in your mind.
We understand the gravity of the situation and that it could be paralyzing. Therefore, we have put together this blog post, where you will find some helpful things to overcome Imposter Syndrome.
1) Give Yourself Healthy Reminders
When such thoughts cross your mind and feel like an imposter, remind yourself that self-doubt is a part of the process where you self-reflect. Anyone who wants to be the best at what they do will feel like an imposter at some point. But, don't let it be a hindrance but rather see it as a critical self-analysis.
Make peace with the fact that the Imposter Syndrome is real and very much common among people working, especially in a creative or service-oriented field.
If nothing puts your mind at ease, know that even the most successful people go through it. Let's hear one or two of them:
“There are still days when I wake up feeling like a fraud, not sure if I deserve this.” -Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook
“Sometimes, I wake up in the morning before going off to a shoot, and I think I can't do this because all I am is a fraud.” – Hollywood actress Kate Winslett
2) Keep Track Of What Triggers Imposter Syndrome
Like we said, Imposter Syndrome is a very normal feeling, and you should not let it cloud your judgment. It is unrealistic to have expectations that you should not feel this way. Instead, it is best to come to terms with it by accepting whatever is happening around you.
In addition to this, be mindful and pay attention to the things and people who may cause it. Delver deeper and train yourself accordingly that the more you will let it affect you, the more it will overpower you.
3) Experiment and Improve
When you feel like an imposter being an edupreneur, there are chances that your current strategies or working pattern might not be the true expression of who you are. Sometimes you end up emulating other people's working habits within the same field to become your best.
So, you might just want to re-evaluate, experiment, tweak and create your recipe for success.
